In 1913, the 16th Amendment to the United States Constitution made income taxes a permanent fixture in the US tax system. Since then, the rates of taxes have only gradually increased to the point where millions of Americans find themselvespaying IRS back taxes. Federal tax penalties can be financially detrimental, to say the least.
There are many ways that you can be forced into paying IRS back taxes. A federal tax lien, for example, can give the government the legal right to claim your property as one means of paying IRS back taxes. Wage garnishments can also be applied once the case is taken up in court. Your back tax penalties are then paid by a portion of money taken out of your paycheck.
